Designated pilot examiners administering checkrides have also begun spot-checking recent flight experience against track data when validating currency or the accuracy of a logbook presented for a practical test. Insurance underwriters reviewing pilot experience for policy issuance or claims investigations represent another audience with growing interest in this cross-verification, since inflated or inaccurate time claims affect risk assessment. In the FAA enforcement context, while isolated Hobbs-versus-ADS-B discrepancies rarely trigger action on their own, patterns suggesting habitual overstatement of flight time could support a certificate action if flagged during an investigation prompted by other events.

This trend sits within a broader shift toward digitized, auto-populated logbooks that pull GPS and ADS-B data directly into electronic flight records, as seen in ForeFlight, LogTen Pro, and similar platforms. These tools are pitched partly as a defense against exactly this problem, automatically reconciling engine and flight time against tracked data and flagging anomalies in near real time rather than leaving pilots to discover inconsistencies years later during a hiring cycle or audit.
